GUAYAFEST 2008 came to a successful end last weekend after two weeks of activities which highlighted the economic, social and cultural life of the people of the south-east community of Guayaguayare.

The festival catered for a senior citizens appreciation day, thanksgiving and family day, beach sports, children’s fun activities, J’ouvert and anaculture, a three-day film festival and an inter-company sports day.

Raymond Cozier, President of the GuayaFest management team, said the festival was meant to celebrate the community of Guayaguayare, bring the people closer together and provide good, clean and enjoyable activities for residents and visitors alike.

“GuayaFest is here to stay and we intend to put on a bigger festival next year to rival any in the country,” added Cozier, who thanked members of his committee and participating companies for making the event a success despite a few hurdles.

Opening the Inter-Company Sports Day, Winston “Gypsy” Peters, MP for Mayaro, noted that “it is nice to take our future into our own hands”.
